When does it start?
Friday, 1st of February
For how long?
All the month of February
Every day there is a new theme (daily themes on the right)
What if I don’t want to draw?
You can take pictures, write, make videos, knit, whatever sparks your creativity
What if I don’t have time?
Create the time! You could, for example, set a goal of creating your daily work in a time frame of 5, 10 or 15 minutes . Once the time is up, you stop creating and post your work on social media. And let’s be honest, if you don’t take time now when will you?
Make time for yourself to be creative.
Getting you out of your comfort zone so that you can discover your creativity
Post your work on Instagram with the hashtags #méméauraitaimé #méméauraitaimécreativechallenge and tag me @meme.aurait.aime so that I can see and share your work ♥
The full story
Two years ago, I participated in the Flow Magazine challenge for their second anniversary. They had created a list of sentences for every day, during the month of February, and the goal was for people to share on social media what those words inspired in them. For that challenge I decided to get out of my comfort zone and draw. During those 28 days, I took the time out of my day to commit to this challenge. At first, I wondered how I would find the time to do so, but quickly realized that it came quite naturally. I’m not surprised after all, because I was creating small bubbles of time for myself during the day to do something that I enjoyed. No wonder it wasn’t that difficult!
During that month, I had to make a huge effort to not be too judgmental about my work and just accept the drawings I produced, even if they weren’t perfect. The fact that we were encouraged to share our work on social media was the tough part for me. All my life I had drawn secretly, barely showing anyone my work and now I had to go further out of my comfort zone. So I did, and the reaction was a complete surprise to me. People were liking and commenting on my posts more than ever. I never expected the huge wave of support that greeted me! SInce that February, I have made two of my best works: Frida and 30 Seconds in a Girl’s mind (both of which have been featured in Pictoria Vol. 2) and I got a few commissioned works. That month led me to believe in myself, it led me to make the final and risky decision of investing in myself and move into my workshop a few months later. I don’t know if I would have made those decisions, or even would have been able to believe in my art, if I hadn’t done that challenge.
Two years later, I am a self-employed illustrator, I have done dozens of commissioned works and am published amongst The Best Contemporary Illustrators Worldwide. Two years later, I have decided to create the same challenge but with my own themes, because if my adventure can inspire just one of you to follow your dreams, then that will make my day!
So on Friday, the 1st of February, I am launching the “Mémé Aurait Aimé Creative Challenge”!! Every day during the month of February you will have a theme to spark your creation. You choose if you would rather draw, paint, knit, take photos or write… Whatever you feel the most comfortable with. But not too comfortable either, because you need to get out if your comfort zone if you want to explore !😉
I would love to see your creations, so please share on your work on social media with the hashtags #méméauraitaimé and #méméauraitaimécreativechallenge and tag me @meme.aurait.aime . Please don’t be shy, and trust me, it is really worth to show your work!
For those who live in the region, I am hosting my monthly event called, Drink and Draw on Thursday, the 7th of February at Les Ateliers de la Côte. It will be the perfect occasion to draw with other people participating in the challenge. If you come, you will also receive a little gift to encourage you to keep up the good work! For those who are able to do the challenge for the whole month, you will also receive a surprise, to thank you for participating, and to encourage you to keep doing so. Hope that this will inspire many of you to take the time for you, and be creative ♥
